Always the Good Girl ... Until
Good girl Leah’s tidy world pivoted off course when bad-boy Ryan flashed his smile. For the first time, Leah feels needed and has a purpose. Keep Ryan in line. Once the give-and-take of married life became difficult, Ryan turned abusive to his wife and evidently to his young child. Leah made the courageous decision to keep her son safe. She takes a position as a home schoolteacher and nanny in the Sandhills of western Nebraska which she hoped would be the last place her husband would look.
Tom Anderson fell in love with Susie in the third grade. They believed that their life was perfect, and that their bliss would never end. Only four years later, Susie struggles with cancer and begs, “Find Tommy and Lucy a mother who is loving and strong.”
Tom cannot begin to envision life without the love of his life. But he must hide his grief to care for his two young children.
Leah’s courage and Tom’s grief will be tested when they are thrown together at the Tumbling A ranch.
A jolt runs up Leah’s back when she meets Tom. But she is still a married woman and the mother of a toddler.
He can’t help but focus on her lips. But his heart is still locked with grief.
Suddenly his smile fades. “Are you the new nanny?” With a snap of his reins, he rides off in a cloud of dust. When Ryan finds where his wife has taken their child, he demands punishment.
Everyone’s future becomes turned up-side down when Ryan locates Leah and plans to make her pay.
Can Leah break her good-girl persona and defend against Ryan’s cruelty?
Can Tom move on from his first love and allow Leah into his heart?

About the Author →
Glenda K Clare
I follow the quote by Maya Angelou. “My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.”
From an early age, I sat on the arm of my grandmother’s over-stuffed rocking chair as she read to me. Her tools were Every Child’s Story Book, Hans Brinker or the Silver Skates which led to reading Jack London and Agatha Christie. The love of literature and power of words was her gift to a wide-eyed small girl.
I have had many experiences but the most important is that I overcame cultural stereotypes for women in 1971, I graduated college at the age of thirty-nine years and taught English Literature and creative writing.
Now retired, my dream is now to focus on her own writing and have been awarded the Bess Streeter Aldrich 2023 Short Story award. Published novels: The Legacy of Prairie Winds, Third Edition; The Kitchen Wars: Blessed are the Peacemakes; and two young adult novels, Time for Courage, Surviving Yellowstone and Propelling Beyond Barriers: Evelyn Sharp, No Ordinary Girl.
I love the art of creating characters and the musical sounds of words.
